The Kinetic Immersion and Extended Reality (KIX) Lab, the home of a Virtual Production Wall, and the adjacent Immersive Embodied Media Studio, is designed to support innovation in research, teaching, outreach and engagement, industry partnerships, as well as creative projects across film, television, audio, games, and immersive media.

A KIX Lab media engineer will oversee daily operations and provide specialized technical and creative support.

Department-specific responsibilities:
  • Reports to IU KIX Lab Director, Ico Bukvic.
  • Operates and supports Pixotope workflows, including camera tracking with Unreal Engine.
  • Supports live virtual production wall shoots.
  • Supports projects and courses in the Immersive Embodied Media Studio by ensuring its software and hardware is calibrated, properly configured, up-to-date, and customized to specific project needs, and by providing assistance and support to faculty and students in using the infrastructure.
  • Maintains lab equipment, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate upgrades.
  • Develops and manages file systems, workflow pipelines, and production documentation.
  • Stays current on trends in virtual production, motion capture, immersive audio, and 3D engines.
  • Mentors, coordinates, and (co)supervises student employees and research assistants working in the KIX Lab.
  • Coordinates the Lab scheduling.
  • Maintains detailed records related to system use, procedures, and operations. Produce reports as needed.
  • Provides workshops and one-on-one training on the immersive media tools leveraged by the KIX Lab.
  • Collaborates with faculty to integrate lab technologies into coursework and leverage it in faculty research.
  • Supports interdisciplinary projects with creative and technical input.
  • Conducts and supports demonstrations for students, faculty, and interested stakeholders and serve as a liaison for the KIX Lab outreach.
  • Guides students in developing portfolio-ready projects using lab resources.
  • Encourages experimentation and innovation in virtual production, motion capture, and immersive audio.
  • Showcases student work through demonstrations, screenings, and exhibitions in partnership with faculty and Media School leadership.
General responsibilities:
  • Consults with faculty and staff to establish current and future multimedia systems needs and requirements; develops plans for creating new and renovating learning environments with emphasis on technology infrastructure, room design, ergonomics and technology applications.
  • Performs highly specialized tasks to ensure maximum availability and performance of classroom technology and infrastructure including analyzing and devising original solutions for unforeseen and undocumented anomalies.
  • Ensures accuracy, completeness and compliance with industry and departmental standards for all projects; reviews and ensures proper documentation of system design issues, resolutions, and updates/changes.
  • Identifies, researches, tests, and develops innovative hardware/software solutions and participates in strategic planning to enhance the functionality and reliability of technology operation and control systems.
  • May serve as project lead; Often provides guidance to junior peers.

WFIU and WTIU seeks a creative, organized, and experienced fundraising professional and leader to manage the station's robust Membership Program. A person in this role should be passionate about the mission and values of public media. The Membership Director is supported by 3 development professionals on the Membership Team who collaborate to encourage and secure individual support for the station's service to the community.

WFIU and WTIU are fortunate to have strong community support from 10,000 donors in south-central Indiana and beyond, and the Membership Director will build on a fantastic foundation to shape the next chapter of the station's Membership program.

Department-specific responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing leadership and strategy for WFIU and WTIU's membership fundraising activities including on-air pledge drives, direct mail, PBS Passport, web, email, social media, vehicle donations, and other gifts through annual and sustaining memberships.
  • Leads the effort of membership fundraising to achieve annual goals of $1.2 million plus.
  • Responsible for cultivating a work culture to encourage excellent communication and teamwork.
  • Oversees membership database, communications, vendor relations, and collaborating on member outreach events and activities.
  • Conducts ongoing analysis to support data-driven decisions regarding the effectiveness of campaigns, adjusting strategy for the team as appropriate.
  • Develops strategies for and executes loyalty programs and incentives to renew, retain and upgrade donors, especially monthly sustaining members.
  • Provides leadership of department and assigned staff members: defines membership methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance to identify and prioritize projects/initiatives; leads Membership team meetings; sets membership fundraising targets and tracks progress among Membership staff.

    Sets fundraising goals and timelines by campaign. Tracks progress toward goals, reporting or presenting figures on a regular basis to manager, team, and department.
  • Develops and maintains the department's budget, goals, and revenue projections.
  • Hires, trains, and ensures employees are connected to resources and colleagues so they can effectively perform their jobs.
  • Holds regular planning meetings for department staff, to discuss and update all team members on strategy, upcoming projects, and progress to goals.
  • Works with Membership team to manage public media membership database, running daily, weekly, and monthly processes and reports to maintain robust membership records and communications. Coordinates with other Membership staff to ensure timely processing of gifts and donor acknowledgement.
  • Researches best practices for direct mail and, with support from the Membership team, manages the station's direct mail strategy for membership fundraising.
  • Cultivates donor relationships through regular communications and outreach events; works with the team to ensure timely responses to member inquiries; updates, maintains, and forwards prospective and current donor files and information to other units and fundraisers as necessary.
  • Leads team in producing on-air pledge activities, including crafting messaging, producing, scripting and coaching, creating fundraising incentives, and working with the development team to create goal maps. Collaborates with programming, operations, traffic, and finance teams in planning for on-air fundraising.
  • Manages the Membership department's relationships with other IU offices and the IU Foundation.
  • Researches and keeps current on industry best practices in fundraising, communications, and member data; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address the department's needs.

General responsibilities

  • Plans and participates in a variety of solicitation efforts for outright annual fund gifts from alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and other constituents and supporters of the university via direct mail, email, phone, in person, and/or social media. Fundraising outreach is generally focused on programming or funds/needs of a particularly large school or spanning multiple schools or departments.
  • Cultivates donor relationships through regular communications and outreach events; updates, maintains, and forwards prospective and current donor files and information to other development officers as necessary.
  • Sets annual funds targets, contacts, and timelines by campaign for self; may participate in goal setting for lower-level development staff, as well. Tracks progress toward goals, reporting or presenting figures on a regular basis to manager, team, and/or department/school representatives. Progress may be monitored via an incentive plan.
  • Creates and distributes compelling print and digital fundraising materials for each campaign; tracks cost, funds received, and metrics such as return on investment for solicitation and pledge to donation yield.
  • Researches, compiles, and provides metrics, facts, and general operations information about IU and its schools and departments to donors. Regularly collaborates with colleagues in relevant departments and schools and conveys donor questions/concerns related to their willingness to contribute.
  • Provides an excellent donor experience through customer service, active listening, inclusive language, and thoughtful and persuasive discussion, consistently upholding the integrity and mission of Indiana University.
  • Regularly takes on complex special projects, such as re-engaging lapsed donors, creating new annual fund campaigns, or developing and executing targeted events for potential donors.
  • May participate in committees or strategy teams with department, school, campus, and/or Indiana University Foundation representatives and assist with setting short- and long-term annual giving strategy.
  • May delegate administrative tasks, such as preparing and sending digital and direct mail solicitations, to other staff.
