Build connections and grow together

The Media School Student-Alumni Mentorship Program connects Media School sophomores and juniors with alumni for a high-impact, year-long mentoring experience.

Through one-on-one conversations throughout the academic year, students gain insight into professional life, explore career possibilities, build confidence, and begin developing their professional networks. Alumni have the opportunity to support the next generation of media professionals, strengthen their own mentorship skills, and make a meaningful impact on a student.

Mentor-mentee pairs meet throughout the fall and spring semesters, creating space for candid conversations about careers, professional development, the changing media landscape, and the transition from college to professional life.

Sophomores and juniors: Learn from someone who’s been where you are

A mentor can help you explore the possibilities of what comes after college.

You’ll be paired with a Media School alum who can offer perspective on professional life, help you think through your goals, and share what they’ve learned along the way.

This isn’t about having your career figured out before you begin. It’s an opportunity to ask questions, learn more about the paths available to you, and practice building a professional relationship with someone working in media or a related industry.

What you’ll gain

As a student mentee, you’ll have the opportunity to:

• Build a meaningful one-on-one relationship with a Media School alum.
• Learn about careers and professional experiences directly from someone in the field.
• Explore your interests, strengths and career goals.
• Develop stronger professional communication and networking skills.
• Talk through academic, extracurricular and career decisions with a professional perspective in mind.
• Gain confidence navigating the transition from college to your career.
• Learn how professionals adapt to changes across the media industry.

Student application process

The application for the 2026-27 academic year will be open Aug. 17-Sept. 4. Selected students will be notified in mid-September and added to the program Canvas site, where they will receive additional program information and resources.

Alumni: Your experience can make a difference

You’ve built a career, navigated decisions and transitions, learned from successes and setbacks, and developed a perspective that can be invaluable to a student who is just beginning to imagine their professional future. The mentorship program offers Media School alumni a structured way to give back through a one-on-one relationship with a current student.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Great mentors listen, ask thoughtful questions, share their experiences, and help students consider possibilities they may not have encountered yet.
